Questions people actually ask

Is an unenrolled deed poll really legal?
Yes. In England and Wales an unenrolled deed poll — the standard-form deed signed before two independent adult witnesses — is how most people legally change their name. HM Passport Office, DVLA, HMRC and UK banks accept it. Enrolling at the Royal Courts of Justice (£50.32) is optional and rarely needed.
I got married — do I even need a deed poll?
Usually not. Taking your spouse's surname needs only your marriage certificate. Choose 'I got married' in the kit and it builds the marriage-certificate route: checklist plus bank and employer letters, no deed poll. Choose 'Deed poll' for any other change (double-barrelled combinations, a different surname entirely, or any personal reason).
What order should I do things in?
Passport first if you travel soon (airlines match the booking to the passport), then DVLA (free with form D1), HMRC, your GP, the electoral roll, and finally banks and employer once your new photo ID has arrived. The kit puts it in exactly that order.
What does it cost overall?
The deed poll itself is free to make. A new passport is £94.50 online; the DVLA licence change is free. Our kit is a one-time ~$29 USD (about £23) and also unlocks the US, Canada, Australia and divorce kits for a year.

WeddingNameChange is a document-preparation aid, not a law firm. One pass unlocks every kit on this site — US, Canada, Australia and after divorce.
