- Which marriage certificate do I need?
- The government-issued certificate from your province's Vital Statistics office. The decorative 'record of solemnization' from the ceremony is not enough for Service Canada, most licensing offices, or the passport program. Order 2–3 copies — the kit's step 1 covers it.
- What about Quebec?
- Quebec is the exception: since 1981, marriage does not change your legal name, and RAMQ/SAAQ will keep your birth name. You can still use your spouse's surname socially and with many private organizations. Pick Quebec in the kit and it adjusts honestly instead of pretending otherwise.
- What's the right order?
- SIN record at Service Canada first (free, and payroll checks against it), then your provincial driver's licence and health card, then CRA, then a new passport if you travel. Banks and employer last, once your new photo ID exists. That exact sequence is the kit.
- Does my SIN change?
- No — only the name attached to it. Same for your health number and licence number. The kit never asks for any of those numbers; where a form needs one, you add it with a pen.
